HKHAWS 22-23 Circular No. 17 - Women's Knockout Cups Shootout Rules Reminder
Dear Convenors,
Please see attached for the Women’s Knockout Cup shootout rules. The following is a reiteration of Competition Bye-law 15.11 and a short summary of FIH regulations.
In case of a draw after the end of regulation time in a cup game, 5 players will be nominated by each team to take part in a one-on-one shoot-out.
- The shoot-out will take place prompty after the match (within 5 minutes).
- A coin will be tossed; winner of the toss can choose to take or defend the first shoot-out.
- The team scoring the most goals after 5 rounds is the winner.
If an equal number of goals are scored after each team has taken five shoot-outs, additional series of five shoot-outs is taken with the same players.
- The sequence in which the attackers take the shoot-outs need not be the same as in the last series;
- The team whose player took the first shoot-out in a series defends the first penalty shoot-out of the next series;
- When one team has scored or been awarded one more goal than the opposing team after each team has taken the same number of shoot-outs, not necessarily being all five shoot-outs, that team is the winner.
For more information, please refer to Appendix 9 (Shoot-Out Competition) of FIH Tournament Regulations Outdoor Hockey.
Also, here is the latest Knockout Cup schedule with minor amendments to umpire duties and amended typos to later knockout pairing.
Kind regards,
