The Hong Kong Hockey Association - Summer Mixed League 2023
Dear Convenors,
It is about time to form your team for summer hockey! This year the Summer Mixed League (SML) will be commencing on Monday, 10th July 2023 and finishing on Thursday, 31st August 2023. The SML will be played on weekday (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday) evenings at Happy Valley from 19:00 to 22:00 and 19:00 to 23:00 on Happy Valley pitch 11 (HV1) and Happy Valley pitch A (HV2) respectively. Each team can expect to play once per week on average and may occasionally have two matches within one week.
The exact competition format and team entry fee will be determined once the team entries have been received.
Objective
The objective of the SML is to bring together hockey players of all ages (see “U18 Players”), gender, ethnicities, nationality and athletic abilities in Hong Kong to play friendly 11-a-side matches in mixed gender teams and to encourage positive values such as fair play, good sportsmanship, respect, team spirit and friendship within the hockey community.
Club/Team Registration
Clubs/ teams who are interested in taking part in the SML 2023 can register on or before 17:00 on Wednesday, 21st June 2023 online via the following link:
https://forms.gle/AyFtvicyxM8rqbfi6
*In view of the pitch availability, 28 teams are expected to be accepted this year. The league will be played with 4 pools with 7 teams in each pool and each team will play 6 games. Arrangement of payment of Entry fee of HKD1500 will be announced once your Club/ Team Registration is accepted.*
Unavailable dates
Any team that is aware of specific dates on which it may not be able to field a team can advise of such dates in the Club/ Team Registration Form. The SML committee will attempt to take such requests into account when determining the match schedule but cannot promise to meet all requirements. The earlier such a request is received, the better chances of the request being met. Please note that it is not possible to entertain requests such as "we can only play at 20:00" or "we can only play on Wednesdays".
Player Registration
Each team is required to register its players using the attached Form (SML 2023 - Player Registration Form.xls).
Players who have not registered in the Men’s or Women’s League during season 2022-2023, have to submit an ID card for player registration use.
Teams may register players at any time during the league. The deadline of submitting the Player Registration will be on or before Friday, 7th July 2023 unless an updated deadline is provided by HKHA when necessary.
The "one team" policy
A player (except female and goal keeper) may only be registered to play for one team but may play for other teams of the same club. However, clubs that are found to be frequently using the same players to play for more than one of its teams will not be permitted to enter more than one team in future SMLs.
Players cannot register for another team until they have been deregistered from the team that they are currently registered with. Players found to be playing for a team that they are not registered with will be immediately deregistered by the HKHA and will not be permitted to register for any team in the current SML. They also risk being prohibited from registering in future SMLs.
U18 Players
The registration of players under the age of 18* cannot be accepted unless the form “Parental Permission Letter for Players Under 18” has been completed, signed by the player’s parent or guardian and submitted to the HKHA by email (roychan@hockey.org.hk).
*Minimum age is 12*
Individual player
Any player who wishes to play in the SML but is not affiliated with a team may submit their names by email (roychan@hockey.org.hk) to the HKHA who will assist them in joining a team.
Conveners Meeting
A meeting will be held at King’s Park Hockey Ground – Conference Room (2/F, Administration block) at 7:30pm on Monday, 3rd July, 2023 to discuss the Summer Mixed League arrangements and Bylaws. All team captains / convenors are requested to attend or to send a representative.
Application will be announced with the confirmed team list.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Wishing you all an enjoyable summer of hockey.
