Hockey Hong Kong, China - Summer Mixed League 2024

Dear Convenors,

It is time to form your team for summer hockey! This year the Summer Mixed League (SML) will be commencing on Monday, 17th June 2024 and finishing on Wednesday, 28th August 2024. The SML will be played on weekday (Monday - Friday) evenings at both Happy Valley and Hong Kong Football Club (to be confirmed) between 19:00 to 22:00. Each team can expect to play once per week on average and may occasionally have two matches within one week. Game start times will be 19:00 or 20:30 and teams will have a mix of both.

The exact competition format and team entry fee will be determined once the team entries have been received. However, we estimate each team will play approximately 8 games with an entry fee of approximately HKD 2,000/team.

1. Objective

The objective of the SML is to bring together hockey players of all ages (see “U18 Players”), gender, ethnicities, nationality, and athletic abilities in Hong Kong to play friendly 11-a-side matches in mixed gender teams and to encourage positive values such as fair play, good sportsmanship, respect, team spirit and friendship within the hockey community.

1. Club/Team Registration

Clubs/ teams who are interested in taking part in the SML 2024 must register by 12:00pm on Monday, 27th May 2024 online at the following link:

https://forms.gle/16PXjW4yBdKCqECcA

The result of the successful of team entry will be announced by 29th May 2024.  Team must settle payment by Monday 3rd June 2024.  Late payment will not be accepted.  Payment details will be announced in due course.

1. Unavailable dates

Any team that is aware of specific dates on which it may not be able to field their team can advise by sending an email to HockeyHK with the specific no-play dates and explanations. The SML committee will attempt to take such requests into account when determining the match schedule but does not guarantee to meet all requirements. The deadline for submission of unavailable dates will be Monday 3rd June 2024. Please note that it is not possible to entertain blanket requests such as "we can only play at 20:30" or "we can only play on Wednesdays".

If your team includes female players or goal-keepers who are registered for another SML team, which would make playing against each other impossible to field two full teams, please inform HockeyHK in an email by Monday 3rd June 2024.

1. Player Registration

Each team is required to register its players using the attached Form (SML2024 - Player Registration Form.xls).

Players who have not registered in the Men’s or Women’s League during season 2023-2024, must submit an ID card for player registration use.

The deadline of submitting the Player Registration will be on or before Friday, 7th June 2024 unless an updated deadline is provided by HockeyHK when necessary. Teams may register additional players at any time during the league via email to HockeyHK.

According to the by-laws 2.4, female players and goal-keepers may register for up to two clubs in the SML.

For female players and goal-keepers who are registered to play for two teams, please indicate on the player registration form which other team they are also registered to simplify scheduling.

1. The "one team" policy

A player (except female and goal-keeper) may only be registered to play for one team but may play for other teams of the same club. However, clubs that are found to be frequently using the same players to play for more than one of its teams will not be permitted to enter more than one team in future SMLs.

Players cannot register for another team until they have been deregistered from the team that they are currently registered with. Players found to be playing for a team that they are not registered with will be immediately deregistered by the HockeyHK and will not be permitted to register for any team in the current SML. They also risk being prohibited from registering in future SMLs.

1. U18 Players

The registration of players under the age of 18* cannot be accepted unless the form “Parental Permission Letter for Players Under 18” has been completed, signed by the player’s parent or guardian and submitted to the HockeyHK by email (roychan@hockey.org.hk).
*minimum age is 12*

1. Individual player

Any player who wishes to play in the SML but is not affiliated with a team may submit their names by email (roychan@hockey.org.hk) to the HockeyHK who will assist them in joining a team. Please do so as soon as possible, and ideally on or before 12:00pm on Monday, 27th May 2024 for the best opportunity to get onto a team.

1. Conveners Meeting

A meeting will be held at King’s Park Hockey Ground – Conference Room (2/F of office block) at 7:30pm on Wednesday, 12th June, 2024 to discuss the Summer Mixed League arrangements and Bylaws. All team captains / convenors are requested to attend or to send a representative.

Application will be announced with the confirmed team list.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.  Wishing you all an enjoyable summer of hockey.
