HockeyHKWS 23-24 Circular No. 21 - Women’s National Squad Trial

Attachment: National Squad Selection Criteria and Appeal Mechanism

Dear all Premier and D1 players,

The Women’s National Squad Committee will be conducting selection trial sessions to select players for the Women’s National Squad wider training squad.

Players for tournaments, competitions and training camps in the coming year will be selected from this wider training squad. This will include the squad for the 7th Women’s Hockey Invitation Tournament to be held in Hong Kong on 8th-10th March, 2024.  Players who wish to be selected for this tournament and any upcoming tournaments, international competitions and training camps in 2024 must attend the following trials accordingly. This will form the baseline squad for 2024, but once the coach is confirmed, they reserve the right to make changes to the core squad either by adding or dropping people.

In case of a high number of trialists from D1, there shall be a pre-trial on 23rd January 2024. Successful trialists on 23rd January (D1 players only) will be invited to continue on the following trial dates.

Dates: 25th January 2024 (Thursday), 31st January 2024 (Wednesday) and 1st February 2024 (Thursday) (Trialists must attend at least 2 out of 3 trials)

Time: 7:00pm-10:00pm (Attendance is only counted for the participation of the full duration of trial)

Venue: King's Park Hockey Ground

Players attending these sessions should arrive at the ground sharp and bring along a white shirt and a dark blue shirt, mouth guard and shin guards. The Asian Hockey Federation has advised the HockeyHK that only HKSAR passport holders are eligible to represent Hong Kong at international tournaments.  Players are therefore required to produce their HKSAR passport as proof of eligibility before they can be considered for selection for the squad.

Players attending these trials must, at the time of this notice, be playing in the Hong Kong Women’s Winter League Premier Division or 1st Division or overseas equivalent. Should any D1 players be selected, they should be made available to play for Bauhinia A by coach's selection and are also expected to play in the Premier Division by HockeyHK Winter League season 2024/25.

Those enrolled to trial can continue to join training until squad announcement. The current Women’s Senior Squad training sessions are generally held every Monday and Thursday evening from 6:30 pm to 10:00 pm at King's Park Hockey Ground.  There are also additional ad hoc training sessions when deemed appropriate.

HK Passport holders that are currently overseas and unable to attend trials may also be considered. Overseas players are required to send a 5 minute training or match highlight clip from the last 1 month that clearly identifies the player AND a playing CV for the past year. They are also required to send in a clip of them performing the full 30/15 fitness test with results.  Selected overseas players are required to return to Hong Kong (at their own expense) prior to the tournament to attend training sessions and must travel to/from Hong Kong for the tournament.  For the purposes of the upcoming tournament in March, the expectation is that overseas players will attend a minimum of 3 training sessions (one week) with the team in advance of the tournament. Please indicate your intended travel plans and training availability in the application.  The above requirements must be uploaded to google share drive and sent link to nortonleung@hockey.org.hk by 21st January, 2024.

If you would like to attend these trial sessions, please fill in the following Google Form by 21st January 2024:
