Dear all,
You may be aware that the men’s and women’s qualifying tournaments for the Asian Games 2026 were recently held in Bangkok and Ja karta respectively. Both Hong Kong teams disappointingly finished outside the top six and therefore failed to qualify. A post-tournament review has been conducted to gather feedbacks from squad management committee, head coaches, and players.
The Council acknowledges that some major changes are necessary after the review, and would like to keep club members apprised with some decisions and actions related to the national squad management below.
1) The two head coaches have been dismissed effective immediately;
2) The national squad management committee including selectors of national squads and team managers, of both Men’s and Women’s Sections is dissolved. The Council extended gratitude and thanks for their service;
3) An interim squad management committee comprising both Vice Presidents, Hon Secretary General, Hon Treasurer General, Men’s Section Chairman and Women’s Section Chairperson has been formed to oversee all squad matters including player selection, interim coach appointment, review and reform of squad management committee;
4) While the two senior squads are currently not training after the qualifiers, the junior team and youth academy training will continue; and
5) A plan to re-structure and rebuild the national squad program will be developed.
The above have been taken effect today.
