Chinese Taipei Crowned the Junior AHF Cup Champion Again, Winning 3-1 Against Singapore (6/8/2014)
The reigning champion Chinese Taipei had a scary start and was one goal down just inside the first minute. But as soon as the second half began, they engineered an amazing comeback, scoring three goals and sealed the victory.
Singapore started the game well. Once the whistle was blown, the ball was sent to the circle and with the slightest touch of the stick, the ball rolled slowly past the Chinese Taipei defense and goal line. The clock just ticked thirty seconds. The crowd and the reigning champion were both shell shocked.
Singapore led the game in 30 seconds.
However, Chinese Taipei was not to be taken for granted. They regrouped soon and their structured play paid off right after the second half started. Their penalty corner was saved but their follow up attempt was not. The game was leveled. Singapore was taken aback and they soon lost another goal.
After taking the lead, Chinese Taipei’s confidence was soaring. They scored the third goal and the win seemed inevitable as they dominated the rest of the game. In the dying minutes, Singapore was awarded penalty corners but they failed to grab a consolation goal. So the score stood at 3-1 and Chinese Taipei was proclaimed the winner of the Junior AHF Cup. Both Chinese Taipei and Singapore qualified for the Junior Asia Cup to be held next year.
