SML 2021 – Circular No. 5 Reminder to All Teams & Umpires

Dear Convenors & Umpires, 

Here are some reminders: 

• Objective
• The Summer Mixed League (SML) aims to bring together hockey players of all ages, gender, ethnicities, nationality and athletic abilities in Hong Kong to play friendly 11-a-side matches in mixed-gender teams and to encourage positives values such as fair play, good sportsmanship, respect, team spirit and friendship within the hockey community.
  
  
• Rules
• All matches shall be played in accordance with the FIH Rules of Hockey 2019, except for the changes listed below:  

1.  
   1. Each goal scored by a female player will count as two goals 
      
      
   2. Hitting is not permitted anywhere on the field
   3. This includes Forehand Hit and Reverse Hit (aka. Tomahawk). However, a Sweep (aka. Slap hit) is permitted anywhere on the pitch outside the two circles. 
      
      
   4. No penalty corners.
   5. For an infringement that would incur a penalty corner under Rule 12.3 of the Rules of Hockey, a free hit shall be awarded and shall be taken at the nearest point to the infringement that is 5 metres outside the circle. For an infringement that would incur a penalty corner under Rules 12.3b, 12.3c, or 12.3d of the Rules of Hockey, personal penalties may be awarded. 
      
      
   6. No penalty strokes.
   7. For an infringement that would incur a penalty stroke under Rule 12.4, a free hit shall be awarded and shall be taken at the nearest point to the infringement that is 5 metres outside the circle. For an infringement that would incur a penalty stroke under Rule 12.4b. of the Rules of Hockey, personal penalties may be awarded.  
      
      
   8. Stick above the shoulder shall not be permitted
      
      

• Duration of Matches 
• 4 quarters of 17 mins
  
  
• Start & Finish Time 
• All matches must start on time, the match before must be finished at least 10 minutes before the start of the next match.
  
  

• Watering the pitch 
• Please make sure you ask the groundsman to water both pitches upon signing in.
