HockeyHK 24-25 Circular no. 7 - Temp. Suspension of SSSC from Participating in HockeyHK Activities

17 February 2025

Attachment: HockeyHK Code of Conduct

To:  Convenors of Affiliated Clubs (Men’s and Women’s)
       All Registered Umpires & Coaches

Cc:  HockeyHK Council Members
       HockeyHK Sections’ Committee Members

Dear all,

You may have noticed that all SSSC team matches starting this weekend have been suspended.  The Men's Section Committee followed up on an incident during the Premier Division match between HKFC A vs SSSC A on 19 January 2025 and was satisfied after investigation that four SSSC players/spectators and one HKFC player were found to have violated the HockeyHK Code of Conduct (see attached).  The SSSC players/spectators are being referred to the Disciplinary Committee (DC) for hearing on the charge of bringing the game of hockey into disrepute.

The SSSC as a club was permitted to return to the league competition in 2023 after a suspension since May 2021 due to a serious incident of misconduct.  Their return was probationary and under certain conditions for two seasons until July 2025.  SSSC members are expected to conduct themselves well within the Rules of Hockey and the HockeyHK Code of Conduct to demonstrate their change in club culture for the better.  One of the conditions specifies that if any incident involving SSSC, its teams, players, officials or umpires, is referred to the HockeyHK DC for a hearing for bringing the game into disrepute, SSSC and ALL its teams, players, officials and umpires will immediately be placed on temporary suspension from participating further in any of the HockeyHK activities until the conclusion of the HockeyHK DC hearing.  All SSSC team matches are now suspended until further notice as a result.

The HockeyHK Council hopes all clubs understand the rationale of the above SSSC case and would (i) support and preserve the spirit and integrity of the game of hockey, (ii) show due respect and sportsmanship towards opposition teams and match officials, (iii) deter intimidation or violent conduct, and (iv) set good example to young players, spectators and the community.
