HockeyHKWS 23-24 Circular No. 25 - Women's Knockout Cups Shootout Rules Reminder
Dear Convenors,
Please see attached for the Women’s Knockout Cup shootout rules. The following is a reiteration of Competition Bye-law 15.11 and a short summary of FIH regulations.
In case of a draw after the end of regulation time in a cup game, 5 players will be nominated by each team to take part in a one-on-one shoot-out.
In case of a draw after the end of regulation time in a cup game, 5 players will be nominated by each team to take part in a one-on-one shoot-out.
- The shoot-out will take place promptly after the match (within 5 minutes).
- A coin will be tossed; the winner of the toss can choose to take or defend the first shoot-out.
- The team scoring the most goals after 5 rounds is the winner.
If an equal number of goals are scored after each team has taken five shoot-outs, an additional series of five shoot-outs is taken with the same players.
- The sequence in which the attackers take the shoot-outs need not be the same as in the last series;
- The team whose player took the first shoot-out in a series defends the first penalty shoot-out of the next series;
- When one team has scored or been awarded one more goal than the opposing team after each team has taken the same number of shoot-outs, not necessarily being all five shoot-outs, that team is the winner.
Teams without goalkeepers may defend shootouts by nominating one field player as the defender, but only players with the proper equipment (i.e. a face mask) can defend a stroke if a stroke is awarded. Such a field player may only use their stick to make a save while defending the shootout or a penalty stroke. Penalty strokes can be taken and defended by any player.
For more information, please refer to Appendix 12 (Shoot-Out Competition) of FIH General Tournament Regulations Outdoor Competitions (attached).
Kind regards,
HockeyHKWS
